80's Heavy Metal

Anyone else like 80's metal? I'm not talking about hard rock bands like Bon Jovi or Poison. I'm talking about bands like Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Megadeth, Helloween, Savatage, Overkill, King Diamond, Anvil, Slayer etc. This is the thread to show your appreciation.

Heck yeah! I like 80s metal. Metallica's Master Of Puppets was the peak of metal during that decade. Megadeth was good also. The heaviest I can get is Slayer with Reign In Blood.

In some ways, the 80s were the golden age for metal, especially thrash. The lo-fi sound of the recordings back then gave them a very raw edge that most 90s metal simply doesn't have.

Plus we have:

Ozzy Osbourne - Blizzard Of Oz/Diary Of A Madman
Metallica - Kill'em All/Ride The Lightning/...And Justice For All
Megadeth - Rust In Peace
Slayer
Judas Priest - British Steel
ect...

Huge Megadeth fan here... sure, I got some Priest, Metallica, and Slayer...

...but Megadeth/Dave Mustain have always been top of the heap with me.

I saw Megadeth live one time and Dave Mustaine can hit all the notes live just as well as he can in the studio.

I saw him last Feb. at Santa Clara University. He is right on man, right on.... the guy is a great survivor and, yes, still puts out the music as it is on record. Amazing stuff. No wait, that was May! Feb was the Foo Fighters.

Great live band.

I saw the original lineup in 1986...then saw them in 2000...

They are better live band than Metallica.

I'm listening to Helloween's Walls of Jericho right now.

One of the best power metal albums ever recorded, and also one of the best German metal albums. I know a lot of people prefer Keeper of the Seven Keys, but I think this one has a warmer production job and Kai Hansen's vocals are far more distinctive and inventive than Michael "I wanna sing for Wham" Kiske.

:P

Killer album. Ride The Sky is probably my favorite by Helloween.

Walls of Jericho is a great album but I still like the first Keeper Of The Seven Keys album a little bit better. Anything Helloween did in the 80's was great. :headbange

True for me too.......I like both Keepers albums slightly better than Walls.

And you know what? I think their latest album is their best to date! :headbange

Now I'm spinning Trouble's Psalm 9. This has got to be one of my favorite metal albums. Period. Sweet rhythms, amazing melodies and solos that will peel the paint off the wall and the scalp from your skull.

I'm very VERY glad I got to see these guy live before Eric Wagner got fired/quit again. :frown:

Another KILLER band.......I think the self-tited album is the best one.

Kory Klarke is now singing with Trouble....which is fine by me since I'm a huge fan of Warrior Soul. :headbange

Trouble is another great band. Psalm 9 is probably their best album but my favorite song (The Misery Shows) is on Run To The Light. :headbange

Re: 80's Heavy Metal

To be honest, I'd never heard of Warrior Soul until Kory joined Trouble. I really like them now, though I dunno how I feel about anyone else singing in Eric's place. It just… doesn't feel right.

Those first three Warrior Soul albums are sweet though, especially the debut. It reminds me of Jane's Addiction crossed with Black Flag, and maybe just a bit of Iron Maiden.

Misery is also on their self-titled! Yup, great song.
