Re: The Beatles v Led Zeppelin

In terms of iconic songs, lasting influence, studio experimentation or even the charisma of band members then The Beatles win hands down.

Re: Warren Zevon v Tom Petty v Billy Idol v John Mellencamp

Warren Zevon, without question. Petty and Mellencamp might dream about sharing Zevon's genius but when they wake up they'll still be run-of-the-mill performers. I think Billy Idol has been included...

Re: Which Warren Zevon Song Do You Like Best?

From the list, Werewolves of London for the piano riff and the astonishing lyrics. "Little old lady got mutilated late last night". Alliteration, anyone? Also for the sheer genius of sneaking "fucks"...

Re: Best Peter Criss Kiss Song – Readers’ Poll

Of course Beth will win but that is a song I always skip over. Beth and Hard Luck Woman are the kind of songs my old Mum would like.

Peter Criss had the worst voice of the four members of Kiss and,...

Re: Yes Recruit New Singer For Upcoming Tour Dates

I've just checked out some Jon Davison stuff and he's OK but I fear he will struggle with the range required for many of the songs. I just can't imagine him hitting the highest notes "I feel lost in...

Re: Paul McCartney, Elton John Set for Royal Tribute

The Queen is content with the bands booked eh? I wonder how much JLS she's heard? Seriously, I'm really pleased the occasion isn't being marked by opera or classical muzak.

Re: Jon Anderson Not Rejoining Yes

This is sad news. Anderson's voice is a major part of the Yes sound, probably the most important part.

Re: Favorite Kiss Album

1. The Elder
2. Hotter Than Hell
3. Dynasty

although my first Kiss album was Alive II and it was magical to hear such excitement captured on vinyl.

Re: Pick Your Top 5 Classic Rock Christmas Tunes!

Phew, what a grim choice. There are some stinkers in that list. The only one worth its salt is Tull's Solstice Bells which isn't a Christmas song at all! It celebrates the much earlier pagan festival...

Re: Rush vs. AC/DC

AC/DC.

I was a big fan of Rush in the late 70s and witnessed the Permanent Waves tour in 1980. After that I went off them rapidly and find it hard to listen to any of their recent releases. There...

Kiss.

Whatever anyone thinks about Kiss as a band Paul Stanley is a very good singer and showed an impressive range when he tackled this song. I would say, live on stage (Unmasked Tour 1980), he...

Re: AC/DC vs. Queen vs. Rush

1. AC/DC (up to 1979)
2. Queen (1973-77)
3. Rush (1974-1977)

No other band comes close to equalling the excitement of seeing AC/DC live (with Bon Scott of course, not the Geordie with the cap).

Re: Deep Purple vs. Thin Lizzy vs. Van Halen

Thin Lizzy by a long, long way.

Re: Ritchie Blackmore versus Peter Townshend!

Both great guitarists but Townshend represents excitement and entertainment far more than Blackmore and, for me, these are more important than technical ability.

Re: Deep Purple vs. Yes

Yes.
I like a lot of Deep Purple circa 1972. I even like the David Coverdale era. But they produced nothing that could match the majesty of The Yes Album, Fragile or Relayer.

Re: Ace Frehley vs. Eddie Van Halen

Eddie Van Halen is clearly the better guitarist but I would rather see Kiss on stage than Van Halen. Sometimes it's good to be entertained rather than drooling over technical ability.
