Re: Best Opening Track
Great thread idea. I went with A Hard Days Night because of the opening chord, the excitement, the movie, it's just a hard charging bit of magic. Mostly it's the impulse of this moment because they're several other songs on the list I might just as well have chosen.

Re: Best Opening Track
I voted for the start of it all......."I Saw Her Standing There".
Paul's "one two three FAH" sets the tone for one of the most kick-ass exciting opening tracks on ANY rock album IMO. I would also add that I think "No Reply" is the weakest opening track. |

Re: Best Opening Track
Lotsa good choices, but it's gotta be "Hard Day's Night". Like Harold says...that opening chord.

Re: Best Opening Track
Much tougher question than the closing song, I went with "I Saw Her Standing There," but could have easily picked "A Hard Day's Night" or "Back In The USSR."

Re: Best Opening Track
I went with back in the USSR, other strong candidates for me were A Hard day's night, Come together, Help, and I saw her standing there.

Re: Best Opening Track
No Reply - When the "Beatles 65" vinyl came out I played this song to death. I found it to be a comforting song regarding adverse situations in my life despite it's somewhat melancholic tone. Anyway, it continues to be one of my very favorite early Beatle classics.

Re: Best Opening Track
I saw this question and my first thought was "I Saw Her Standing There" before I even opened the thread. Easily one of the best rock openings of all time.

I love hearing that opening to Revolver as soon as you put the needle down. Honorable mentions A Hard Day's Night Magical Mystery Tour |

Re: Best Opening Track
I went with 'Sgt. Peppers'. Just something about the crowd noise and the instruments tuning up. Its like magic in my ears.

Re: Best Opening Track
The "Yellow Submarine" album is missing from the list. I don't know if it would get any votes, but it is missing.
The opening track is YS - but if it was "Hey Bulldog" we'd have some thinking to do ![]() |
