Re: Bob Dylan Resumes His Never Ending Tour

If you've never seen Dylan live or just haven't seen him in a long time I'm telling you it is more than worth it to go. The man has more energy than guys half his age. Last time I saw him (couple of years ago) he played a 2+ hour show nonstop. It was a great show and I see no reason his shows today are any less.

I agree to a point. His band is always great but Bob has some tough nites.

I guess you have to expect that from time to time, especially given the fact that he's always on tour without the extended breaks that other touring acts usually take.

Yeah, I don't think I would pay big coin to see Dylan alone again since I have seen him a few times already. But i would be all over seeing him with Wilco and MMJ...they are 2 of the best live acts around.

I saw him a few years ago here in Jax. it was a city-sponsored show, held in our downtown area on a great park site. It rained. Dylan played for about an hour with his back to the crowd, never addressed them once, sounded awful and plainly did not want to be there. I got in for free and still felt ripped off. Do you think I'll pay to possibly see that type of performance again? Zero chance.

Re: Bob Dylan Resumes His Never Ending Tour

It's been a while now, but I saw him in '01 and '04 and he was great both times. I will say that he didn't interact with the crowd much at all, but he and the band were in fine form.

I agree Jax, that was exactly the type of performance that i saw in Vancouver last year. Very uninspired and, well, pretty boring show, a lot of the crowd had left before it was over. I was disappointed, it was my first time seeing him, and im a big fan, but ive seen a lot of live shows, and this was one of the worst ive seen. Mark Knopfler was great as the opening act though.

Saw him in Syracuse about 10 years ago and had concerns because of his reputation but he gave an excellent performance and the band was tight.

Re: Bob Dylan Resumes His Never Ending Tour

I'd LOVE to go see a Dylan show that's even remotely close to some of the bootlegs I've heard where he was on point and fired up and absolutely nasty good. They used to come a dozen times during any one tour leg, now they seem to be once or twice a year...I really don't care if he talks to the crowd or not, just say hello, intro a song or two, and just play for a couple of hours- he has the catalog to go that long, and since he's not prancing all over the stage, he can do it. if Springsteen can go 3 and a half hours in Italy the other night, running all over the stadium, then Dylan can do 2 hours.

Re: Bob Dylan Resumes His Never Ending Tour

My friend saw Dylan in concert a few years ago and he said Dylan ran thru his setlist like his limo was double parked.

He also said that a lot of his songs in concert were unrecognizable.

Re: Bob Dylan Resumes His Never Ending Tour

^ your friend then doesn't know Dylan songs. Even Dylan on a bad nite has a great band. I don't tell the songs by Dylan singing its by the music. Dylan has been singing his songs in many ways since the 70's.

Jax you saw him in the rain at a free festival I wouldn't call that a real Dylan show. However don't expect early 70s damn that is a whole different Dylan.

He's been going to Dylan concerts since the late 60s, so I would think by now he knows all the Dylan songs verbatim.

[quote=hightea;1184342Jax you saw him in the rain at a free festival I wouldn't call that a real Dylan show. However don't expect early 70s damn that is a whole different Dylan.[/QUOTE]

a) the crowd was standing in the rain to see him. Bob didn't get even close to wet.
b) it was a 4th of July weekend free concert, not a festival. If it wasn't a real Dylan show, I'll let city hall know so they can get a refund for the $65,000 they paid for it.
c) I wasn't expecting 70s or 80s Dylan. What I was expecting was a professional show from an artist with a huge catalog. What I got was akin to what any garage band could do for $64,900 less.
d) there wasn't a SINGLE positive review from anyone who went to this show. Dylan mailed it in and lost a few fans because of it.
e) I expect hardcore fans to provide excuses, and defend their hero, even in the face of the brutal truth, lol.
