This Day In Music History: Nov 15th

1971 Grand Funk Railroad release their sixth album, "E Pluribus Funk". Music critics bash it, but fans think otherwise and buy enough copies to push it to number five on the Billboard Hot 200 chart. The title of the LP is a play on the former motto of the US government, E Pluribus Unum (Out of many, one).

2018 Roy Clark, a Country music star who reached #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1969 with "Yesterday When I Was Young", died of complications from pneumonia on November 15th, 2018. He was 85.

1969 Janis Joplin calls out a policeman at her concert in Tampa, Florida, when he uses a bullhorn to yell at audience members who have left their seats.

The cop tells Joplin that she needs to tell the crowd to remain seated, and she replies, "I'm not telling them s--t."

After more stage ranting where Joplin threatens to kick his face in, she is arrested after the show, charged with using "vulgar and indecent language." After posting a $504 bail, the charges are later dropped and she pays a $200 fine.

1968, The Jimi Hendrix Experience went to No.1 on the US album chart with their third and final studio album Electric Ladyland. The double album included ‘Crosstown Traffic,’ ‘Voodoo Chile’ and a version of Bob Dylan's ‘All Along the Watchtower’. Hendrix expressed displeasure and embarrassment with this "naked lady" cover which was banned by several record dealers as "pornographic", while others sold it with the gatefold cover turned inside out.
