You could say that about pretty much every song they've ever done Part of their charm...

Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds

Get it, and don't let the GN'R connection scare you if you're not a fan of them...this doesn't sound like GN'R at all. Stones and Faces is the closest thing I can think of...

Re: CRF2 Best of the 90s Poll: Recommendations Thread

Keep the recommendations coming everyone!!

Here's another from me:

Golden Smog - Weird Tales (1998)

Golden Smog are a supergroup made up of (among others): Jeff Tweedy (Uncle Tupelo, Wilco), Gary Louris (The Jayhawks), Chris Mars (The Replacements), Dan Murphy and Dave Primer (Soul Asylum). In my opinion this was on of the best supergroups ever formed. A very talented group of musicians that just wanted to get together and have fun. I think a key to their greatness is that they never took themselves too seriously (their original name was "Her Satanic Majesty's Paycheck.")

"Weird Tales" is a great album that showcases the individual talents of the members while at the same time to fit all together. The album combines power pop, alt country and basic straight ahead rock. Check it out!!

Silver Jews - American Water (1998)

In 1984, I was hospitalized for approaching perfection
Slowly screwing my way across Europe, they had to make a correction.
Beginning with one of my favorite opening lyrics ever American Water is an album that combines incredible songwriting and musicianship. The band's sound is a completely unique mix of indie, country, americana and lo-fi. David Berman is a great songwriter combining insight and humor incredibly well. As a vocalist he fits in the unorthodox singers category with Bob, Neil, Lou Reed, etc.. Stephen Malkmus brings the Pavement sound to the album on guitar. For me, this album is the definition of a grower...it took a few listens to take hold but now it is definitely one of my favorites from the decade.
Yes! Love this record. Berman is just great and I'm a mark for anything involving Malkmus. American Water is definitely the Jews most accessible album but I also like their debut, Starlite Walker. The music is slow, twangy, countrified rock with really clever lyrics sung in a Southern stoner drawl.

My favorite from American Water

54.40 is canada's REM, theyve written loads of catchy and interesting pop/rock songs. Dear Dear is my favorite album of their's - nary a weak track. It also provided somewhat of a soundtrack to my last year in high school.

heres a couple songs from the album

Hayden - the closer i get

If theres any artist that should be more popular on this board, and would be if forum members had heard his stuff, its Hayden. He has the songwriting chops, voice, and musicianship of a young Neil Young. All his albums are amazing (except maybe his newest). 'The closer i get' is definitely his dark album, very similar to 'On the Beach' in tone. I recommend you check it out.

song from it
