Yeah me too. Then again I love most of what has been listed so far.

Re: Bands you're supposed to like, but.......

I didn't list the Rolling Stones only because I love their 60's and early 70's albums but after that they don't do anything for me.

I mostly listed hard rock which just isn't my cup of tea.

Re: Bands you're supposed to like, but.......

REM...I like "The One I Love"
Neil Young There's stuff I like, but I don't quite get ALL the praise and adulation he gets...same with Elton...I'll take Todd over either one and you don't hear near as much about him.
Elton John
U2
The Police...I own Zenyatta whatever it was...like a few songs
Aerosmith after 70s
Led Zep...have a like/dislike relationship with 'em
Lynyrd Skynyrd..."too rednecky" sometimes
Pink Floyd sans Syd
Heart
Fleetwood Mac w/Stevie Nicks
Stevie Nicks...love looking at her

I would agree 100% with the ones above emoor.

I would add The Eagles minus Joe Walsh

I'm pleasantly surprised not to be the only one to list The Beatles - I thought I was a bit of a pariah here on that score.

Re: Bands you're supposed to like, but.......

Kiss
Rolling Stones
The Beach Boys
ac/dc
Nirvana
Bon Jovi
U2

I do like at least 1 song from each of these bands, but I never could love them like I love The Beatles or CCR even. I don't read up on these bands or keep up with what is happening in their life or anything. I appreciate at least 1 song or more from each though...

Re: Bands you're supposed to like, but.......

Van Halen - I don't hate 'em, I just don't like 'em
Springsteen - I never understood anyone's attraction
Queen - Bleh
Rolling Stones - I loved their early stuff...then they released their disco album
U2 and Pearl Jam - It has more to do with their frontmen's politics than anything else.

I noticed there isn't much love for Dave Matthews here. It's gotta be his voice.

Re: Bands you're supposed to like, but.......

Led Zeppelin - can't stand their singer or what comes out of his mouth.

Bruce Springsteen - Mr. "blue collar" that speaks for the people. Zzzzz.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - the southern boy macho thing bores me.
Elton John - he simply bugs me, never liked him.
Nirvana - they are way overrated.
Sex Pistols - no musical talent.
Queen - too opera rock for my tastes.
Areosmith - they represent all that's bad about rock growing older.
Pink Floyd - indulgence, without the musical chops of real prog rock.
Metallica - turning it up to "11" doesn't impress me I guess.
Bon Jovi - pretty boys that don't really rock.
ZZ Top - it's too "good ol’ boys" barbeque rock for me.
Bob Dylan - stick to the writing Bob.
Janis Joplin - a glorified drunk who’s voice gets on my nerves.
Eagles - country music rapped in rock packaging.
Kiss - would a blind man like their stuff?
U2 - they don't progress, it’s the same old this and that.

Re: Bands you're supposed to like, but.......

...wait a minute...'bands you're supposed to like'?...says who?...

...that said:

--Aerosmith, Kiss, Van Halen: I was already ten years too old for these bands when I first heard them, in my early 20s...also the beginning of the trend in rock towards being less about the music and more about being loud...
--Springsteen: okay early on, but then he became some kind of 'media darling' and I got sick of constantly hearing about him, as if he was the best thing that ever happened to music...
--AC/DC...see part 2 of Aerosmith, etc...rock n roll might not be noise pollution, but AC/DC certainly is...
--80s metal...third-generation, and mostly third-rate as well...

...and probably the most iconoclastic of all: Elvis...yes, he might be the 'King of Rock n Roll' and all that, and there's no question that he did a lot to get rock going, but I have never been a big fan...
