I didn't pick up the box set, but I have a copy of Metal Massacre on cassette. It has that first version of "Hit the Lights" with the Mark Slaughter-worthy vocals.

I was planning on mentioning Budgie, Pentagram, Trouble, and the Warrant that were not pie fans - but it looks like that ship sailed long ago.

Favorite Trouble album:

Only Pentagram record owned:

Song that made me love Warrant: "Nuns Have No Fun." Thanks to humanmachinery for reminding me of a band I had completely forgotten about.

Who remembers E-X-E?

Their first album got a lot of play in my cassette player in the 80's!

Yeah Trouble should have been much bigger. Those Metal Massacre compilations are great too.

That is one of those bands I have heard of but don't think I actually heard their music.

Re: 80's Heavy Metal

Wow - I have heard something you haven't!

They were a good power/thrash band......I never did get to hear their second (and last) album, but the first one rocks good.

I love all of Wino's stuff:

The Obsessed is probably my favorite. I didn't really get into Saint Vitus until Weinrich joined. I used to really be into them, but these days I find the slooooow tempos try my patience.

These days, I'm really into Cathedral.

Re: 80's Heavy Metal

The Ethereal Mirror is the only Cathedral album I have......and it's great.

Check the liner notes - --these guys are into the more obscure heavy bands from the 70's........which is cool.

I have Mirror, The Carnival Bizarre, Caravan Beyond Redemption, and The VIIth Coming. I like them all, but they are pretty interchangeable.

You got me on E-X-E too!

More doom metal...how about Candlemass? Epicus Doomicus Metallicus is one of my favorite metal albums.

Re: 80's Heavy Metal

Candlemass might be the ultimate doom band.....I'm not sure though.......that title might belong to Pentagram.

Either way, yeah Candlemass were (are) a great band.

Ancient Dreams is my pick for favorite album. So HEEEAAAVVVYYY!

Great record, but I prefer

Can't really go wrong either way.
