How about Electric Wizard? <edit>Not from the 80's, but might be worthy nonetheless.<edit>

I don't like the King Diamond-like vocals on this record at all.)<edit>. The title track is definitely the best cut on the album <edit>(and by title track, I actually mean "Wake The Dead")<edit>. "Metal Mission" is probably my second favorite - although I kinda like the cheese factor of "Sinister Mister."

I'll have to check out the E.X.E video later...this thread is causing me to miss out on sleep

Re: 80's Heavy Metal

I've gotta say that "Mel Torment" (parody on "Mel Tormé?") is possibly the best user name I've seen since "Pastor of Muppets."

Glad that somebody brought up Candlemass. I saw them in Cleveland on the most recent tour, and was absolutely blown away. The musicianship and songwriting of the four main members was formidable, but I already knew that. What I did not expect was Robert Lowe's incredible performance. Lowe is now one of my favorite metal singers. His stage presence, intelligence, humor, lyrics, and downright phenomenal singing won me over. He's easily the best doom metal singer of all time, IMO. Better than Eric Wagner or Scott "Wino" Weinrich. He's just that awesome.

I imagine none of this is news to Solitude Aeturnus fans, who have seen him live several times. I'm a relatively new convert.

Dude, I totally want to start an EW thread in the "00" music forum now. I fucking love "Dopethrone."

Solitude is one of my favorite Candlemass songs. I never did get to see them live but I hope I get the chance one day. It sounds like they are a hell of a live band.

Glad you like the user name. It IS a parody on Mel Torme. John Lennon used it as a pseudonym on Walls and Brideges. I liked it, so I nicked it.

I did not know that Robert Lowe was now singing for Candlemass, but I am definitely a fan of his work with Solitude Aeturnus. I especially like the 90's stuff. Downfall is probably my favorite but Beyond The Crimson Horizon isn't far behind. I'm too big of a Trouble fan to be unbiased in the Eric Wagner versus Robert Lowe debate.

Welcome. It's always good to meet a fellow . Just be warned - this thread is like the Hotel California, "You can checkout any time you like...but you can never leave."

Re: 80's Heavy Metal

I mentioned Enchanter earlier in this thread. I'm spinning their Defenders of the Realm comp right now. They were one of the first truly talented or worthwhile metal bands to ever come out of Michigan, and fairly early contributors to the prog metal genre. Unfortunately they never managed to get signed. Their recordings were finally released earlier this year, long LONG after the band broke up.

These guys were like a mix between Fates Warning and early Helloween. One review aptly described their sound as "frequent tempo changes, razor sharp guitar riffs and paranoid high pitched vocals."

I live for stuff like this.

note: if anyone wants to hear some of their stuff, you can PM me. I'm going to set up a MySpace page for this band soon.

Re: 80's Heavy Metal

Ditto. I'd love to hear it. I love both Helloween and Fates Warning.

Thanks so much, guys.

Just uploaded the songs. Four out of six are now playable, and the other two should be working soon.

I don't have a background done yet, but the bare bones are there.

Re: 80's Heavy Metal

How about Death? They were a huge influence on the death metal bands of the late 80's and 90's.
