I just looked at the ebay store..cool stuff! Is there pics of the book online before I check?
I don't know I have never looked. I happened across it on Amazon and decided to post about it since I had it.

Re: 80's Heavy Metal

Anybody remember Realm?

Exceptional prog/thrash band from the late '80s. Their first album was especially awesome.

Re: 80's Heavy Metal

There was a radio station here in the 80's that had a show on Wednesday night's from 12:00 A.M. - 1:00 A:M called "Strictly Metal" and all they played during that hour was heavy metal. They played the real heavy stuff. I taped a lot of the shows back then. I was going through some tapes the other day and ran across them. Check out the play list from some of these tapes. This was from 1987 and 1988. It was either the later part of 1988 or 1989 that they moved the show to Friday night and extended it an hour and changed DJ's and they started playing more hair bands. It came on earlier too. I missed the Wednesday show where they played the heavier stuff. How many radio stations would play some of this stuff? Some time in the mid 90's they changed formats and did away with Strictly Metal. They have since changed formats several more times and aren't as good as they use to be. Those were the good old days though.

Re: 80's Heavy Metal

Yeah there are Internet and satellite stations that play it but back in the 80's it was unheard of to hear it on the radio except in really big markets. It's a shame that even now corporate radio largely ignores metal.

Re: 80's Heavy Metal

We have far too many rap and country stations around here. We have a classic rock station that plays some hard rock from the 80's but mostly stuff like Whitesnake, Def Leppard and the Scorpions. You are lucky to have a station like that.

Yeah I don't listen much to radio anymore either. I have several thousand CD's so I don't need radio anymore.

Re: 80's Heavy Metal

Yeah great stuff. I have often wondered why some of these bands weren't bigger than they were.

Re: 80's Heavy Metal

NWOBHM is an abbreviation that stands for the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. In the late 70's and early 80's a pile of heavy metal bands came from England. This movement became known as the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal. The prime influences on these bands were Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple. NWOBHM bands include Iron Maiden, Saxon, Venom, Angel Witch, Demon, Witchfinder General, Girlschool, Diamond Head, Tygers Of Pan Tang, Cloven Hoof, Holocaust, Samson, Jaguar, Tank and a lot of other bands.
