Diez!

I saw them open for KISS also, I think it was 1986......They blew KISS away as I recall.
They sure did blow Kiss off the stage! The crowd was drained by the time Kiss came on

Re: 80's Heavy Metal

And now, Carnivore - Retalliation.

Peter Steele is one of my favorite songwriters in metal history. He up there with Warrel Dane, Geezer Butler, Bruce Dickinson, and Mikael Åkerfeldt.

It's a shame more people don't know about Carnivore, though I think most of the goth girls would run from him in terror if they heard this stuff.

Re: 80's Heavy Metal

Yep Carnivore were bad ass.

How about Possessed? I always thought they were one of the most brutal heavy metal bands. If there was a rival to Slayer it was Possessed imo.

Re: 80's Heavy Metal

Possessed were a cool band. I remember picking up Beyond The Gates and Celtic Frost's Tragic Serenades the same day.

Larry Lalonde plays for Primus now....you probably already knew that.

Re: 80's Heavy Metal

Seven Churches is amazing. I hear Chuck Schuldiner totally changed his style after listening to Possessed's demos.

I also own a Primus DVD where Les Claypool is showing old photos of Larry LaLonde to the camera, covered in studs, spikes and leather. He's ripping him a new one and everybody's laughing.

NP: Warlord - Deliver Us

Bill Tsamis and Mark Zonder are just ridiculously talented. Diane Arens is no slouch either. It's a shame Jack Rucker quit after this EP, because he was the best singer they ever had.

Edit, for anyone who's not familiar:

Re: 80's Heavy Metal

Looking at this pick of Venom it is easy to see how they were a huge influence not only musically but image wise on black metal bands that would crop up almost a decade later.
