Ritchie Blackmore Doesn't Believe In The Rock Hall

As Ritchie Blackmore promoted a new release from the current rebooted version of Rainbow, he was asked about his reaction to Deep Purple's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and asked if he regretted not attending the ceremony.

Blackmore sat down for an interview with Billboard and was asked "You're a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer now, with Deep Purple. How do you feel about it now that it's happened? Any regrets about not attending the ceremony?"

He responded, "I have no interest in that type of thing. I don't believe in people being in the position where they can say who is in and who is out in the music business.

"Rock n' roll is all about freedom, not having a panel of phantom arbiters discussing who is going to be in and who is going to be out. I think Steve Miller said it best when he was inducted. Check YouTube for that."

Might as well be the Jimi Hendrix Experience without Jimi Hendrix.

Bon Jovi Chemistry Still There Says Sambora Following Rock Hall Reunion Rehearsal

It is official Richie Sambora will be reuniting with his former Bon Jovi bandmates when they are inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later this week and he says rehearsals for the performance have been "wonderful".

The guitarists, who left the group in 2013, spoke with Billboard (via UCR) about the upcoming induction and what is like to play with his former bandmates again.

He told them, "It feels great to see everybody. We already rehearsed and it was wonderful, it wasn't awkward. The chemistry came back very quickly; it's matrixed into our muscle memory at this point. If you're on the road performing and touring for 30 years, [the Rock Hall] is just another cycle - and it's a good one, so here we go."

Sambora was also asked about the record breaking fans vote to have them inducted. He responded, "You don't go out and make music for the awards. You make music for the fans -- that's the truth. And this award is all about them, because without them, there would be no Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. There would be no music business. Think about it: you put a concert on, and if the fans didn't show up, there ain't no concert."

He added about the long delay to be included in the Rock Hall, "We've been nominated before [in 2011]. I had kind of put it out of mind, because we were looked over by the grand forefathers of the Hall of Fame until this year. But I figured that, you know, one day, I'd get in. Maybe I'd be dead, but I'd still get in. I've tried not to get too excited about it for a long time, but I'm starting to get excited about it. I'm glad that I'm actually alive to get in there."

Classic Artists Still Not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

These stars are still waiting for the induction call

Each spring, the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame honors artists who have helped shape the legacy of popular music and frustrates fans whose favorites didn't make the cut. Musicians become eligible 25 years after their first album release, according to the official rules, provided they "have demonstrated unquestionable musical excellence." The subjectivity of this last line has fueled debate since the first class was named in 1986. The induction committee has evolved with time to embrace a wider spectrum of music, including hip-hop and heavy metal, but the abundance of truly talented musicians has led to a long Rock Hall waiting list. Let's take a look at some worthwhile artists who are still waiting for their call.
