Re: Rumors or Hotel California

Great question.

"Hotel California", the track, is exceptional. And there are also some superb tracks there in "New Kid In Town" and "Life In The Fast Lane".

I think "Rumours", however, is an album ahead of its time. You've got some incredible stuff there in "Dreams", "Don't Stop", "Go Your Own Way", "Songbird", "The Chain", and "You Make Loving Fun".

We're talking two genres of rock music, but for me, "Hotel California" is "just" an excellent album, whereas "Rumours" is certainly among my Top 10 albums of all time.

Rumours for me every time as it has some tracks on there that I'm emotionally attached to. I do like Hotel California, just not as much as I live the Fleetwood Mac album.

Re: Rumors or Hotel California

Fleetwood Mac are a great band, in fact an old friend of mine had the priviledge of being one of their "roadies" when they toured USA back in the 70's. At the time "Mystery To Me" was their current album. Personally I think Rumours is one of the best albums they've done, but if it's a contest between that and the Eagles "Hotel California", then for me it has to be Hotel California.

I sure hope my old friend doesn't read this, or Mick Fleetwood, they're both bigger than me

Re: Rumors or Hotel California

I voted for Hotel California. I'm much more sentimental about that album.

Objectively I would say Rumours is the more consistent album overall but Hotel California has more GREAT songs on it.

It's really too bad the way they played the song Hotel California to death on the radio. I couldn't stand listening to that song for years then one day when I finally did after not hearing it for a long, long time I was bowled over by it all over again. Beautiful music and some of the most intriguing lyrics I ever heard. I was only 14 when Hotel California was released and honestly had no idea what the heck they were actually singing about but I found it ... interesting ... and maybe dug most of the album more for the music.

Re: Rumors or Hotel California

Rumours is a fantastic pop album, Hotel California is just under-thought and heavy-handed schlock.

Re: Rumors or Hotel California

Voted Rumors, a more consistently good album for me even though Hotel California has several great songs. Rumors is the only second incarnation FM album I own or like.

Now that's a guy who could probably tell some tales. Mystery To Me is the album when Bob Weston was in the band, the guy who replaced Danny Kirwan and also the guy who had an affair with Mick Fleetwood's wife. It's not really good form to have an affair with your drummers wife if you're the new guitarist.

For me I have to go for Rumours. It's one of my fave albums and every track is a gem. Hotel California is very good but not every track is essential.
