Re: 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time

My favorite quote from the article is about the Allman Brothers' Butch Trucks and Jaimoe (who should be a LOT higher than #71 FFS):

"As Jaimoe recounted to Relix, he and Trucks tried to take drum lessons from Elvin Jones in 1974, only to have the jazz legend tell them, "What do you guys want? I know who you are. What am I supposed to teach you?"

It makes sense that they looked to Elvin Jones for tips, Elvin sounded like two drummers all by himself, and would wipe the floor with about 95 of the 100 drummers listed.

As for the top of the list, just my opinion, but Jon Bonham was not a better drummer than Keith Moon or Ginger Baker. Just ask Ginger, who famously said Bonham "couldn't swing a sack of shit".

I never even heard of half the names on this list.

Also, did I miss something or is Carl Palmer absent?

Re: 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time

This is just as bad (if not worst) than the Rolling Stone guitar list. I don't which is funnier, Dennis Chambers (63) behind "Questlove" (54) or Buddy Rich (15) behind Ringo Starr (14). The 'missing in action' list far too long but here are a few representatives:

Lenny White (Return to Forever)
Dave Weckl (Chick Corea Elektric Band)
Tony Royster Jr. (Jay Z)
Chester Thompson (Genesis, Frank Zappa, Weather Report)

A tip of the hat for at least including Bernard Purdie and Bill Bruford (at least the authors are not complete idiots).

Re: 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time

If Buddy Rich is on the list, where the hell are Elvin Jones and Art Blakey? I thought they didn't include any jazz drummers.

Quit reading after seeing Steven Adler and Meg White made the list.

Re: 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time

Not only having a score of mediocre drummers on the list is lame but no Carl Palmer is ridiculous. They should let actual drummers vote on this instead of the moronic staff of Rolling Stone.

Yep...no Carl Palmer is so ridiculous.
