Aerosmith...not much of a contest here. If this had been early Van Halen it would have been a much harder choice.

I think early Van Halen destroys anything Aerosmith did. If you put a Best of from Aerosmith's first 4 albums again VH 1 I would vote for VH 1.

A more fair comparison probably is Aerosmith's late 80's-90's stuff. That's closer to Van Hagar level. I admit that.

I don't think it's a slam dunk for Van Halen. Both bands early output is really good. I will say that the first Van Halen album is better than anything Aerosmith did.

Re: Early Aerosmith vs. Van Hagar

For Aerosmith it would've been more even if you would've put later material like Permanent Vacation,Pump,Get A Grip and Nine Lives which all came out around the same time the Van Hagar stuff did.Now a later day Aero versus Van Hagar would've been a bit more even.

I would have agreed that it was closer 10 years ago. But the more times goes by the more the original VH just sounds more fresh and edgy compared to Aerosmith's early stuff. Excluding a few songs like Jump and I'll Wait of course.

Moreover, they're just a more talented band. The songs have more edge and spirit, they rock harder, there is little to no pretension and the albums sound the same, but different.

Aerosmith without question - never really liked Van Hagar.

Re: Early Aerosmith vs. Van Hagar

I'd take any era Aerosmith over Van Hagar and DLR-era VH over any era Aerosmith.

Re: Early Aerosmith vs. Van Hagar

One of the easiest polls ever here, Aerosmith's early records are fantastic imho and I don't like Van Hagar at all.

Re: Early Aerosmith vs. Van Hagar

Aerosmith by miles. I'd take early Aerosmith over Roth Van Halen as well, but it'd be a much closer race. Sammy Hagar blows other than the first Montrose record.

Re: Early Aerosmith vs. Van Hagar

I would definitely be interested in a poll of classic Van Halen vs classic Aerosmith. Or simply Aerosmith vs Van Halen overall.
