Re: Best Opening Track

Very difficult choice, as all are great. I went with "No Reply," a personal favorite, but "Taxman" was a strong contender as well.

Re: Best Opening Track

I went for "A Hard Day's Night"... the opening chord is brilliant, and so is the 12-string salvo of notes at the end! It could just as easily have been any of a half dozen of other album-starters, though. Ask me tomorrow and I'll probably change my mind.

I love "A Hard Day's Night", but Sgt Pepper is a true classic.

Tough tough choices. I went with Sgt. Pepper over A Hard Days Night.

Re: Best Opening Track

Taxman - it's the only track by George Harrison. Going by the list, the only time one of his songs led off a Beatles album.

Re: Best Opening Track

Taxman is my choice. "One, two, three, four, ahem... one, two..." And then that great guitar riff... Wow - fantastic opening! But I can absolutely understand why "A Hard Day's Night" and "Back in the USSR" received many votes, too. Actually almost every Beatles album opens with a great rocking song.

Re: Best Opening Track

...almost a toss-up between 'Help' and 'Taxman'...but 'Taxman' won out...

...if the US version of Rubber Soul had been on the list, 'I've just seen a face' would be in the mix, too...

Re: Best Opening Track

I would have to go with Drive My Car - Rubber Soul. When i first heard that album i was amazed by the opening track. Great little solo guitar then comes in with it all, wonderful stuff!

Re: Best Opening Track

Sgt. Pepper's just barely squeezes over Come Together and Back In The U.S.S.R. for me.

Good Poll.

Re: Best Opening Track

Whew, what a tough question...George Martin did such a great job of pacing those albums (and my understanding is that he made most of those decisions--with the band's input of course).

I finally had to go with "A Hard Day's Night" for the same reason as others. That opening chord was truly innovative. In 1964, nothing like that had ever been done.

I would also give honorable mentions to "Help", "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band", "Magical Mystery Tour", and "Back In The U.S.S.R." Those were all fabulous album openers.

Re: Best Opening Track

It woulnt be long - With The Beatles

Couple of reasons, I like the tune, first album for us here in the states although Meet The Beatles started with I Want To Hold Your Hand. While I like all of the Beatles, its their early work im drawn to these days.
