Passings: Ray Thomas of the Moody Blues (1941 - 2018)
Ray Thomas, the singer and multi-instrumentalist for the Moody Blues, died on Thursday (January 4) after a multi-year battle with prostate cancer. He was 76.
His record company announced his passing on Sunday (January 7): It is with profound sorrow and sadness that Cherry Red Records and Esoteric Recordings regret to announce that Ray Thomas, founder member, flautist and vocalist of the Moody Blues, passed away suddenly at his home in Surrey on Thursday 4th January 2018. We are deeply shocked by his passing and will miss his warmth, humour and kindness. It was a privilege to have known and worked with him and our thoughts are with his family and his wife Lee at this sad time. http://www.vintagevinylnews.com/2018...lues-1941.html |

Re: Passings: Ray Thomas of the Moody Blues (1941 - 2018)
I'm sure I saw another thread about this earlier, but it is very sad news. He was a major contributor to The Moodies at their peak, and I'm pleased I was able to see them live then.

Re: Passings: Ray Thomas of the Moody Blues (1941 - 2018)
His voice matured after the first few albums. OK, maybe the recording techniques got better. My point is that I thought he had the best voice in the band.
So now our Veteran Cosmic Rocker is Traveling Eternity Road. RIP

Re: Passings: Ray Thomas of the Moody Blues (1941 - 2018)
Things have taken an interesting turn. I did not have either of RT's solo albums. I found a new CD of Hopes, Wishes and Dreams. I knew that I wouldn't find an affordable copy of From Mighty Oaks. I was wrong. I found it on a wide disc at a local record store.

Re: Passings: Ray Thomas of the Moody Blues (1941 - 2018)
I had recently acquired all the early mach 2 Moody Blues albums up to Seventh Sojourn, but also had the two Ray Thomas albums. I think I sold all the Moody Blues albums but kept the Ray Thomas ones. Should have hung on to them all.
