Procol Harum versus Yes!

Which prog band do you like better? Why?

Procol Harum

Yes

Yes. They are, for me, one of my top 5 bands. Their form of prog appeals way more to me. 'The Yes Album', 'Fragile' and 'Close to the Edge' had me hooked. Then they changed personnel and tailed off a bit. But they would come back strong from time to time. Anderson, Howe, Squire, Wakeman and Bruford were a tough act to follow. It doesn't hurt when you have an album ('Close to the Edge') which in many circles is considered the best progressive album ever released.

I've disliked Yes ever since I first heard their early releases such as Your Move and Roundabout. Tracking these cuts down on Youtube for the purposes of this thread simply reminded me why I don't like them.

Procol Harum though appealed to me right from the start. Here's another early release of theirs I really like:

Any one reason in particular for the dislike? How about this song? I used the cut down (single) version here. I think it's better than the long version.

I've given a bit of thought to that question over the last few days. I therefore listened to an assortment of early Yes releases to determine what put me off their music from the start. The main reason is that the vocals annoyed me - and still do. But the instrumentals don't draw me into the tracks either.
