The Who’s Roger Daltrey calls out pot-smoking fans at New York show

Roger Daltrey wasn’t happy with some fans at The Who’s show in New York on Monday: “You f***** my night”

Roger Daltrey slammed some of the fans attending The Who’s show at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Monday evening for smoking marijuana.

The singer is allergic to pot smoke and has complained to audience members about lighting up during the band’s shows previously.

And at the end of this week’s concert at the iconic NYC venue, Daltrey blasted some fans close to the front of the stage for ruining his night.

He said: “I’ve got to tell you, all the ones smoking grass down the front here, I’m totally allergic to it.

“I’m not kidding. Whoever it is down there, you fucked my night. I’m allergic to that shit and my voice just sucks up, so fuck you!”

Watch the Who Play New Song ‘Big Cigars’ at Madison Square Garden

Originally titled “Guantanamo,” the politically charged song is slated to appear on the Who’s upcoming studio album

The Who resumed their Moving On! world tour with a stop at Madison Square Garden on Sunday and used the opportunity to play their new song “Big Cigars” for the first time in America. The tune is part of their in-progress LP that Townshend told the audience will come out in November. It’s their first collection of new songs since 2006’s Endless Wire and just their second since 1982’s It’s Hard.

“Big Cigars” was first released as “Guantanamo” on Pete Townshend’s 2015 compilation album Truancy: The Very Best of Pete Townshend. The politically charged song is about the prisoners at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp. “Down in Guantanamo/We still got the ball and chain,” Daltrey sang. “That pretty piece of Cuba/Resolved to cause men pain/When you light up in Cuba You won’t feel the same again.”

VIDEO: The Who cut Houston show short after Roger Daltrey loses voice

In these clips you get the tail end of Roger saying he loved Houston but not his allergies and he would do his best. Then the video starts and Pete jokes around some to lighten the mood. However, Roger's voice breaks immediately and he can't go on. Pete starts to cover. Roger goes on to do the best he can to finish the song, but he's not happy. At the end of the song you can see Pete reach to lend a supportive hand. They play Eminence Front, but then Roger calls it quits before the next song. So they go off stage for a few minutes and Pete comes back on stage to cancel the Houston show.

The Who launch furious new single All This Music Must Fade

All This Music Must Fade comes from upcoming album Who - due in December

The Who have released a new single, All This Music Must Fade. The track comes from their upcoming album Who, which will launch on December 6, and arrives three weeks after the band shared Ball And Chain.

Pete Townshend describes All This Music Must Fade as, "A song dedicated to every artist who has ever been accused of ripping off someone else’s song. Seriously? Our musical palette is limited enough in the 21st century without some dork claiming to have invented a common chord scheme."

Roger Daltrey, who ends All This Music Must Fade by proclaiming, "Who gives a fuck?" says, “I think we’ve made our best album since Quadrophenia in 1973. Pete hasn’t lost it, he’s still a fabulous songwriter and he’s still got that cutting edge."
