Re: name an album you bought just for one song...

My answer depends on whether we are discussing albums bought for one song which otherwise turn out to be disappointing or are by artists the listener would not normally be interested in, or albums...

Re: Alice Cooper vs. Deep Purple!

From these two, Deep Purple, chiefly for the Mark 2 era releases - Machine Head is one of my favourite rock albums (side two being especially strong, although Highway Star is my favourite track),...

Re: Favorite Song from Blood on the Tracks

I voted for Tangled Up In Blue on account of the brilliant lyrics (I particularly like the '13th century Italian poet' verse) and equally memorable melody (one of Dylan's best in that regard). I...

Re: Dylan: Bringing It All Back Home vs. Highway 61 Revisited vs. Blonde On Blonde

All three of these albums are great, but I think Highway 61 Revisited is especially impressive and is my favourite of the trio. I would rank them in the following order:

1) Highway 61 Revisited
2)...

Re: Which tracks do you use to test stereos?

It's probably a very unoriginal choice, but this song from Dark Side Of The Moon is my favourite for testing audio equipment (whether it be stereos or new headphones):

Time - Pink...

Re: 3 on 3: Who's Next vs. Wish You Were Here

I voted for the three Pink Floyd songs because, as great as the Who's Next tracks are (especially Baba O'Riley and Won't Get Fooled Again), Shine On You Crazy Diamond represents my favourite band at...

Re: Pink Floyd Space Poll

I like all of these tracks and would rank them as below:

1. Astronomy Domine
2. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun
3. Let There Be More Light
4. Interstellar Overdrive
5. Cirrus Minor

In my...

Pink Floyd Space Poll

I was listening to some early Pink Floyd recently and was reminded that their 1960s albums had several songs with titles and/or lyrics relating to space travel. Of these five intergalactic-themed...

Re: songs with similar intros

I've long thought that this pre-Joe Walsh Eagles song from 1973 and this Joe Walsh song from 1978 (on his first solo album after joining the Eagles) have uncannily similar intros:

Certain Kind of...

Re: Bringing It All Back Home vs. Rust Never Sleeps

I voted for Rust Never Sleeps, which is my favourite Neil Young album. I love how it combines some of his strongest acoustic and electric material, the classic opening and closing tracks help a great...

Bringing It All Back Home vs. Rust Never Sleeps

I thought these two albums would make a really interesting match up. Both releases are among the most celebrated works of two of rock's most prolific solo acts, but in addition to this, both feature...

Re: Dark Side Of The Moon or Wish You Were Here?

These are my two favourite albums, not just by Pink Floyd but by any rock artist (both create a unique atmosphere that no other band has quite matched to my ears) and it's a very close contest...

Re: Dire Straits vs. Simon & Garfunkel

Definitely Dire Straits for me, they have long been one of my favourite bands and Mark Knopfler is one of my favourite guitarists - I've loved his playing since I first heard Sultans of Swing when I...

Re: Zeppboy's Format Poll

I voted for CDs and MP3 files, as I tend to listen to MP3 files (I mostly listen to music on headphones) but I have a reasonable collection of CDs. If I want to buy an album I generally I prefer to...

Re: Good Times Bad Times / Communication Breakdown

Two great tracks, both among my favourites from the first Zeppelin album. Ultimately I went for Good Times Bad Times because it marked such a great introduction to the band and highlights the talents...

Re: Is "Dark Side Of The Moon" Pink Floyd's best album?

I voted 'one of their best, but not THE best', although it's a very close thing as Wish You Were Here is my favourite Pink Floyd album with Dark Side a very close second. I think Dark Side is perhaps...

Albums with Great Opening and Closing Tracks

I thought this would be a fun thread. Which albums do you think start with a classic song and have another classic to finish the album?

A few albums that readily spring to my mind with a pair of...

Re: The 10 worst albums by 10 brilliant classic rock bands - Louder

The list was okay for the most part, although I don't think Celebration Day belongs on a list like this. The write up they give for it is noticeably more positive than for most of the others and...

Re: Led Zep I vs Led Zep II

Both are superb albums from a top-notch band. However, of these two releases, I prefer Led Zeppelin II. I think the first album has several incredible highs - to my mind Dazed and Confused is one of...

Re: songs that merge into another... a list

On Led Zeppelin I, Your Time Is Gonna Come merges into the acoustic instrumental Black Mountain Side, although they are listed as separate songs unlike some of the examples given above.

Re: Pink Floyd versus Queen!

Pink Floyd is my favourite band (I took my username from my favourite Floyd song, Shine On You Crazy Diamond), so I voted for them. I enjoy some Queen songs but I don't actually own any of their...
