That track by Fudge was written by Lee Hazelwood...for Nancy Sinatra...a strange one indeed since it wasn't his usual style. Lee claimed it was about Phaedra from Greek...

As I said before Butterfly due to 'Metamorphosis'...both bands had some good lps and some patchy ones in their day. . When Bogert and Appice (with McCarty and Day) formed Cactus they had some good...

I might have mentioned these guys before....imho as good as any country blues rock back in the day...I read somewhere that The Eagles used to watch them and other bands play at The Troubador ...one...

Well....Sabbath awas always hard rock/metal to me...Neil and Crazy Horse are rock with an early grunge proto type sound (many grunge people think so)...
The Sonics are garagerock/punk.....Blue Cheer...

I think if one looks at the lps by both from 1969-1980 the material by Bowie carries more weight and gravitas than Elton's stuff....though as mentioned Elton did some nice songs in his career.

Not really a fan of any of those bands...but I do like a few Iron Maiden lp's and they have some prog rock going on at times...... so chose them.

Ok..went with Lightfoot because he plays guitar well and his voice is simply much better...Cohen has never been much of a musician even by his own commets btw.
When he fist started he wrote poetry...

Two well respected singer songwriters....many have covered their songs and many artists like them as well. Dylan said he's a fan of Lightfoot while Judy Collins helped Cohen to get started.

IMHO both bands are not that important in the overall scheme of rock history...and that's not meant to be a knock on either.
Both had some 'hits' and were popular in the late 60's.....but neither...

Interesting both songs start with the bass playing the back melody...they are both great songs...so I flipped a coin and It;s My Life won.

I was around then..started college in 69...no one I knew in college used the term prog rock then ...i don't really recall hearing it until the early to mid 70's.
