Van Halen Returning Says David Lee Roth

David Lee Roth has dropped some hints about a 2019 return by Van Halen after four years away from the spotlight. The band haven't been heard from since wrapping up a North American tour in 2015, but in a new interview promoting his tattoo skin care line INK The Original, the rocker suggests that will change ... and soon.

"When we come back through town in the summertime and do the original thing, maybe somewhere sportin', maybe with somebody famous," Roth tells staff at Vulture prior to a full chat session. "I'll make sure we get you all tickets so you can see what we do for gainful employment. My mom still wonders."

"Next time my rock band will be playing the same place that the Yankees play," exclaims Roth during the interview, and when pressed to confirm a Yankee Stadium concert by Van Halen in 2019, he replies, "Yeah, but I can't ... If I say something on tape here and everybody goes, 'Oh, this leaked...' But, the band will be - I can't say."

With Van Halen activity "around the corner by a hundred days," the rocker adds, "Well, I don't know how far this privacy actually goes. But the band is solvent. And I can say that I contacted colleagues about being part of the show - Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Jason Aldean, the Foo Fighters, [Eric] Church, and [Chris] Stapleton. And they all said that, if everything happens, they would certainly be involved"

Although Van Halen missed the opportunity for a 2018 trek to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their 1978 self-titled debut album, Roth summarizes the band's approach to touring since his return the lineup in 2007.

"There's a time-capsule element that goes along with my kind of music," he says. "You can't keep serving it every year. We're on a James Bond schedule, every three-and-a-half summers, so you don't go, 'Weren't you just here?' and then we'd start selling fewer tickets. That happened with the third Pirates [Of The Caribbean] movie. Johnny Depp was scarred, emotionally. But classic rock is great. It funded everything we're doing today."

Van Halen Star Addresses Reunion Rumors

Original Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony has struck down a rumor spread by a radio personality that he would be reuniting with the group next year.

David Lee Roth hinted earlier this month that the legendary band would be returning next month and radio personality Eddie Trunk followed up by claiming that an unnamed source in the industry heard from another unnamed source that the band's return would include the original lineup.

Premiere Radio Networks report that Anthony reacted to the rumor by stating, "The only comment I have is that I haven't spoken to any of the guys since we last played together back in 2004."

Van Halen Did Make Moves To Setup Reunion

https://www.hennemusic.com/2019/02/sa...alen-have.html

Van Halen have approached original bass player Michael Anthony to see if he was interested in reuniting with the group, according to his friend and former frontman Sammy Hagar.

Speculation has been running high that the band is planning to launch a tour featuring a reunion of the original line up of Eddie and Alex Van Halen, David Lee Roth and former bassist Michael Anthony.

Hagar, who is still close to Anthony, was asked about the rumors during a recent interview. He responded, "As usual, Mike's hearing about it through the news, just like the way he heard about when replaced him. It was, like, 'Oh, I guess I'm not in Van Halen anymore.' He read about it instead of these knuckleheads giving him a call and just being straight upfront with him. So Mikey's still sitting in that same position again to where all these rumors are going around."

Sammy then broke the news that Michael had been approached by the band's management last year. "Mike and I have had the conversation. I'm telling you, Mike don't know sh*t. They're gonna have to eventually... Somebody's gonna have to give the guy a call. I mean, he got a call six months ago from management saying, 'Are you interested?' And he said, 'Yeah. I'm doing a record with Sammy right now. We're booking shows, so you'd have to work around it.' And they said, 'Okay. We'll get back to you.' And that was it. I can tell you that much."

Van Halen Reunion Contingency Plans Made

If Michael Anthony is called on to reunite with Van Halen, Sammy Hagar says that he and the bassist have already discussed that they would put their current band The Circle on hold while Anthony tours with his former band.

Hagar spoke with WROK and the rumors about a reunion of the original lineup of Van Halen came up in the interview. He said, "There is no confirmation about a VH tour. I ain't here to tell you 'yes' or 'no' if it's going to happen, if it's not going to happen. But Mikey is my dearest friend in the world. He's my favorite bass player and singer on the planet [and] to be in a band with, and we will continue to be in a band our whole life.

"But if there was an opportunity for him to go play in Van Halen again just to mend that up, just to keep that sour note from being in his head for the rest of his life, he has my blessings. I will take the time off while he goes and does it. We have already talked about it, but there is nothing confirmed. I can tell you straight-up right now there has been nothing confirmed, and I ain't gonna say it is or isn't, because that's not my place.

"Right now, we're going to promote this record together that we made together, and we're gonna do some shows. And as soon as these shows are done and we figure [out] what we want to do, we'll go book some more and keep doing it. Mikey is in The Circle. He's my bass player. He's my fellow singer. He's my bandmate. He's my dear friend. He's my soul brother."

Van Halen Reunion Tour Not Going To Happen Says Anthony

Michael Anthony has bad news for Van Halen fans hoping for a reunion of the original lineup. The bassist responded to a fans question by stating that the speculated trek is not on.

Rumors have been flying about the possible tour with former frontman and Michael's long time friend and current The Circle bandmate Sammy Hagar saying that Anthony had been approached by the Van Halen camp about a reunion in the middle of last year.

Sammy said, "he got a call six months ago from management saying, 'Are you interested?' And he said, 'Yeah. I'm doing a record with Sammy right now. We're booking shows, so you'd have to work around it.' And they said, 'Okay. We'll get back to you.' And that was it. I can tell you that much."

In a later interview, Hagar said that he would be willing to put tour plans for The Circle on hold so that Michael could take part in a reunion. Last week a fan tweeted the question to the bassist "Thought the circle was on hold because of VH tour??" and Anthony relied, "VH tour not gonna happen".

Van Halen Attempted A Reunion In 2018 But It All Came Crashing Down

Van Halen attempted to reform in 2018 but it all went south very quickly.

Original bass player Michael Anthony told Howard Stern, “I was actually contacted by management last October to see if I was interested but that’s as far as it went”.

“I think they were trying to put something together at their end and something went wrong at their end,” Anthony added.

Michael Anthony also told Stern he would be happy to reunite with Van Halen but “it would have to be done on good terms and it would have to be done right”.

Sammy Hagar was also in on the interview. He said he had not talked to “those guys since 2004”.

Michael Anthony: Van Halen ‘Pulled the Plug’ on Summer Reunion Tour

“For whatever reason, they never got in touch with us about any kind of a contract or any kind of a meeting to discuss it,” former bassist says

Former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony says he was approached last year about the possibility of a reunion tour with the band that was supposed to take place this summer. It would have been the first time all four members of the classic David Lee Roth lineup shared a stage since 1984.

“I’m sure you know Sammy [Hagar] had made a statement [earlier in the year] saying I was offered [to do a tour with Van Halen],” Anthony told radio host Eddie Trunk on Wednesday. “And I can tell you, I spoke with [Van Halen’s manager] Irving Azoff last October — that’s when I first heard from him — and he asked if I would be interested in any kind of a reunion, and I told him, I said, ‘Yeah.’ I was finishing up a couple of shows with Sammy and I said, ‘Yeah, I’d be interested to hear what you guys have going on. I’ve got these few dates left, and give me a call.’”

A follow-up call from Azoff never came, Anthony says. “And then, right after the first of the year, David Lee Roth’s business manager or lawyer, or something, got ahold of me about a meeting or something,” he said. “And so at that point, I gave it over to our manager, because I didn’t wanna start getting in this whole thing — I wanted to do it the correct way, especially after the way things went for me in 2004. From what I’ve heard, and I haven’t spoken to any of the guys, they were gonna try to plan a thing for this summer, And for whatever reason… I was never… My people were never… They never got in touch with us about any kind of a contract or any kind of a meeting to discuss or whatever. And the next thing I knew, the plug got pulled on it.”

Sammy Hagar On The Downfall Of Van Halen

Sammy Hagar laid out the "dysfunction" within Van Halen that led to the demise of his very successful run with the band, saying that other members of the band began changing.

Hagar joined the band in 1985 to replace original frontman David Lee Roth and the band had a string of hit albums, "5150," "OU812," "For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge" and "Balance", before leaving the group in 1996.

He then returned for an ill-fated reunion in 2003. Sammy discussed the downfall of his original time in the band in a recent feature Planet Rock. He reflected, "We had eight years of (huge success), and then suddenly people in the band started changing... and it wasn't me and it wasn't Mike (Anthony.

"The Balance record was like pulling teeth, things got very dysfunctional by then. Drugs and alcohol and insecurity and bad management killed that band."

David Lee Roth Meeting With Van Halen Bandmates

David Lee Roth says that he will be seeing the Van Halen brothers "in a couple of weeks," but hasn't offered any details about the band's future plans. He did however have a lot to say about the dynamics within the group.

Roth was a guest on the WTF With Marc Maron podcast and was asked about why he left the group in 1985. He explained"Why did it fracture? 'Cause all rock bands fracture.

"It turns into diverse interests. People have the friction of time. And that friction is family; that friction is... sometimes it's partying, but I don't know if that's what really separated Van Halen."

Dave then added, "There were always creative differences. We never got along. It was a beautiful, beautiful pairing of... You've seen cowboy movies where the guys are always sabotaging each other but they're working to somehow accomplish something. And I think you'll see that in a lot of popular bands. They may have gotten through it, but I don't know that we ever really grew up and became gentrified. Now, that may not be a good thing; a part of me remained 23 years old forever."

Roth seems to have now accepted and embraced the dysfunctions within the band. He said, "Van Halen's perfect, and I always sensed that perfect would get back together - perfect in its imperfections. Think of your most ruined jeans that barely are jeans. They're your favorite because of the holes in 'em... Your favorite part of your cowboy boots is the f***ed up part... That kind of imperfection, we value that and we still have it - it's in the music, and it makes the music more popular than ever."

Van Halen: Sammy Hagar Questions David Lee Roth's 'Stupid' Stance

Van Halen enjoyed massive success during the Hagar years but Sammy says that David Lee Roth is "stupid" for refusing to concede that the band's achievements during the Van Hagar era.

Sammy has been busy promoting The Circle's debut album "Space Between" and during an interview with Planet Rock magazine has asked about the rivalry between himself and Roth.

Hagar says that the supposed rivalry "wasn't even a blip on my radar." And then he went on to say, "I don't respect Dave's artistry, but I do think he's clever and a great showman and what he did with Van Halen in the early days was fantastic. Van Halen couldn't have made it without him.

"God bless Dave, but he refuses to acknowledge that Van Halen with me was even more successful than Van Halen with him, and that's very stupid of him. That'd be like me not acknowledging what he did for the band before I joined: that would be stupid wouldn't it?"
