I really like John Popper's solo on Metallica's cover of Tuesday's Gone:

And also the solo on the version of Share the Ride on Croweology:

Re: Best Harmonica Solos

Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan on a list of best harmonica solos? Oh, my.

Little Walter, James Cotton, Paul Butterfield and both Sonny Boy Williamsons are going to go walking dead on Ultimate Classic Rock's ass. Billy f***ing Joel?

I've seen some absurd lists here, but this one is beyond laughable.

Little Walter, James Cotton, Sonny Boy Williamsons are all Bluesmen, and that is probably why they didn't make the Ultimate Classic Rock list.

I understand the concept, but the truth is, there are no good harmonica solos in classic rock.

OK, your choice of John Sebastian in Roadhouse Blues isn't bad.
But you have to admit, if Neil Young and Bob Dylan are the cream of the crop, the bar isn't set very high.

Re: Best Harmonica Solos

Billy Joel's "Leave a tender moment alone" has the great Toots Thielemans on harmonica. He may not be a blues harpist, but he is one of the best harmonica players ever.

Keith Relf plays a white heat harmonica solo on Armageddon
(1975), but I can't remember the song on the lp.

Re: Best Harmonica Solos

Just by coincidence, I heard a classic rock tune with a good harmonica solo yesterday, "Run Through The Jungle", by CCR. Great tone. With the harp, it's all about the tone. I don't know who played it on the record, but it's better than anything on that list.

Don't forget Charlie Musselwhite. Which reminds me...

INXS - Suicide Blond (Charlie Musselwhite plays the solo)

Re: Best Harmonica Solos

Who played the harmonica solos for Zeppelin? I've seen Plant do it in live recordings, but did he do it in the studio too?
