Paul Revere & the Raiders for me. Between the two groups, I always preferred the Raiders sound and music. Their version of "Louie, Louie" is my favorite version of this often covered song.

Ranking my favourite songs by these two bands:

1. I Think We're Alone Now - Shondells
2. Just Like Me - Raiders
3. Don't Take It So Hard - Raiders
4. Indian Reservation - Raiders
5. Crimson and Clover - Shondells
6. Mirage - Shondells
7. Let Me - Raiders
8. Hanky Panky - Shondells
9. Hungry - Raiders
10. Crystal Blue Persuasion - Shondells
11. Mony Mony - Shondells
12. Him or Me - Raiders

Paul Revere & the Raiders get the decision.

I voted for Tommy James & The Shondells.

Their hits were just so much better quality pop songs. They were well-written, memorable and catchy.

To my ears, Paul Revere & The Raiders' weren't as much.

Re: Paul Revere & the Raiders vs. Tommy James & the Shondells!

My vote just tied this, and I think it is appropriate these two are close.

I got to see Paul Revere and the Raiders briefly in 2003. I was at one of the Disney parks in Orlando. I heard the music as we were in line to get something to eat or drink. and turned around to see them on a stage. I was with my wife, son and another couple, and I persuaded them to sit for a few minutes while we consumed whatever we bought so I could watch them. But we were on the way to something the others wanted to see, and we left after about 5 minutes.

Wish I'd been able to see more.

Re: Paul Revere & the Raiders vs. Tommy James & the Shondells!

Paul Revere has made a second career of touring the fair circuit. We saw Paul Revere & the Raiders (sadly Paul Revere was the only original member still with the band) at the Canadian National Exposition in Toronto in 2012 on a twin bill with Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits fame. They were fun!

The Raiders win on the strength of "Orbit (The Spy)" alone.
