I just stumbled upon a video clip of their performance of Moon River that evening:

Here as well from their earlier show in London, England:

Re: Is Jeff Beck the greatest guitarist of them all?

Within the 'rock world' ...on an given day he can certainly hold his own. The 'best'..? I don't think there is a 'best'.
There are many excellent guitarists and they all have different styles..for the most part. It usually comes down to the style of music one is drawn to as to who one likes the best.
I think technically he's better than many.....but I like other guitarists band music better at times. So....is it the music or the playing that grabs us or both?

Man, time flies. I remember when this thread came out. Back then I voted no. Nothing has changed except that when now using the term 'greatest' (speaking technically) I firmly believe that title should go to Shawn Lane. Just my opinion.

Here's a good Jeff Beck interview from 1983:

Re: Is Jeff Beck the greatest guitarist of them all?

Saw Beck and Santana on the same stage/bill about 20 years ago.....Santana was very good but Beck smoked it.....the different sounds and approaches to the fret were simply amazing. But......for the most part I would rather play an old early Santana lp for the songs.....but still think Beck has more 'fire'.

I'm with you. I'd much rather see Jeff Beck live, but I'll reach for Santana's LPs much more often than Beck's.

Re: Is Jeff Beck the greatest guitarist of them all?

I saw them in those days...in Chicago...BOC opened up for them. That was my favorite Beck group of players..sadly they only did a few albums.
When I saw beck with Santana it was around 2000....Bozzio on drums..can't recall the bass player.

Re: Is Jeff Beck the greatest guitarist of them all?

I've seen Jeff Beck four or five times. They've all been in the last 25 years or so though.
