Re: Alice Cooper vs. Deep Purple!

Well.....I like the earlier things by both bands but Cooper has always entertained me more than Purple. Blackmore and Lord are better musicians than the players on the early Cooper lp's but their brand of hard rock never grabbed me....on the other hand Coopers rock and tongue in cheek songs always made me smile.

Alice Cooper. I just liked Alice Cooper more than Deep Purple. Behind Cooper's stage theatrics I always thought their music was an overlook entity of the group's success. Imo there's not too many dual guitarist bands with better players than Glen Buxton and Michael Bruce.

Re: Alice Cooper vs. Deep Purple!

From these two, Deep Purple, chiefly for the Mark 2 era releases - Machine Head is one of my favourite rock albums (side two being especially strong, although Highway Star is my favourite track), Deep Purple In Rock is also great and the sometimes overlooked Fireball is another good listen. I especially love the musical chemistry between Ritchie Blackmore and Jon Lord, Blackmore is an exceptional soloist and Lord's organ solos are every bit as good. Add in Ian Gillan's superb vocals and the rhythm section of Ian Paice and Roger Glover and the result was a superb hard rock band. I also like the first Mark 3 release, Burn (especially the title track and Mistreated) but I view the Gillan/Glover lineup as the definitive Deep Purple line up.

Music Note Re: Alice Cooper vs. Deep Purple!

This one was tough for me.

As far as individual songs are concerned, Child in Time by Deep Purple stands head and shoulders above the rest. Dep Purple tunes Smoke on the Water and Highway Star are neck-and-neck with Alice Cooper's I'm Eighteen for the Silver.

But!!! Love It to Death by Alice Cooper is easily my favourite LP by either band. In fact, other than a track here or there I haven't really been impressed by any of Deep Purple's LPs.

I therefore went with Alice Cooper.
