Well, that's a tough one! Although I love Joan Jett, and it must be said she rocks harder, for breadth and consistency I ultimately had to go with Chrissie Hynde and the Pretenders!

BTW, here are my personal favorites from both...

I know that the Pretenders get far more respect from classic rock fans than do Joan Jett & the Blackhearts these days but when I order the tracks I like the best by these two bands I get this result:

1. I Hate Myself for Loving You - Joan Jett & the Blackhearts
2. Back on the Chain Gang - Pretenders
3. Crimson and Clover - Joan Jett & the Blackhearts
4. I Love Rock 'n Roll - Joan Jett & the Blackhearts
5. Brass in Pocket - Pretenders

Joan Jett & the Blackhearts therefore get my vote.
