1944 Ric Ocasek of The Cars is born in Baltimore, Maryland. His date of birth is often reported at March 23, 1949 because that's what he often claimed, but records show he was actually born five years earlier.

1950 Phil Lanzon (keyboardist for Uriah Heep) is born in England.

1983 ZZ Top release their album Eliminator, which features Billy Gibbons' custom hot rod on the cover. Thanks to videos for "Gimme All Your Lovin'," "Sharp Dressed Man" and "Legs" featuring the car and various babes, they become unlikely MTV stars, earning a new generation of fans.

1979: Van Halen released their second album Van Halen II, which went on to become their first album to reach the top ten of the Billboard 200 Album Chart, peaking at number six.

1980: Pat Benatar reached number twenty-three on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with “Heartbreaker” which was her first top forty single in the U.S.

1985: Journey peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with “Only the Young”, their fifth top ten single in the U.S.

2002 Randy Castillo drummer with the Ozzy Osbourne band died of cancer aged 51. Worked with Osbourne during the 1980s and early 1990s. Also worked with Lita Ford and Motley Crue.

1950 Tony Banks (keyboardist for Genesis) is born in East Hoathly, East Sussex, England.

1953 Rock guitarist Wally Stocker (of The Babys, Air Supply and Humble Pie) is born in London, England.

1959 Keyboard player Andrew Farris, who forms INXS along with his brothers, Tim and Jon, is born in Perth, Western Australia. He and lead singer Michael Hutchence team up to write most of the group's songs.

1986 – Sammy Hagar plays his first gig with Van Halen.

1987, U2 performed from the roof of a store in downtown LA to make the video for ‘Where The Streets Have No Name’, attracting thousands of spectators and bringing traffic to a standstill. The police eventually stop the shoot.

2003 – The Rolling Stones postpone their Hong Kong concerts over fears of the spread of the killer flu, severe acute respiratory syndrome.

2006 – Pete Wells, slide guitarist and one of the founders of Australian power blues band Rose Tattoo, dies in a Sydney hospital. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2002 and had spent the previous five weeks in the hospital. He is 59.
