Supposedly, Robert Plant handled harp on the studio stuff.

I know nobody's gonna agree with me, but Huey Lewis plays a mean harp on "Workin' For A Livin"

Also, who played harmonica on "The Wizard" for Black Sabbath?

Re: Best Harmonica Solos

I dont know much about harmonica playing, but I always loved it in the Pretenders 'Middle Of The Road'. I think Chrissy played it. May not be technical, but the song rocks.

Chrissy H is pretty good on harmonica and plays a mean harp on Phil Manzanera's 'Green Spikey Cactus' from 6PM (2003).

Forgot about that one. It is Chrissy Hynde, and it's pretty good.

Re: Best Harmonica Solos

I jokingly posted earlier in this thread about James Cotton, among other harmonica greats, rising from the grave to kick some righteous ass at Ultimate Classic Rock. I honestly thought he was dead! Then he released a new album, "Cotton Mouth". Not only is he alive, all I can say is holy shit! Check this out if you like harmonica (and if you're reading this, I guess you do). That's Joe Bonamassa on vocals and guitar.

James Cotton is still great! He fittingly wears the mantle passed on to him by Little Walter:

OK, what's the consensus on Canned Heat? If they fit in classic rock (and I think they do, they played at Woodstock), the late Allen Wilson gets my vote for best harmonica solo.

Try this one:

Both Neil Young and Bob Dylan though deserve fulsome praise for playing harmonica without engaging in the ever so painfully common hand hot dogging.

I wish more harmonica players would cut down on the theatrics and devote their full attention to the mouth work.
