Re: What Are You Listening To?

It was 'I Hate Bruce' track that led me to the above... though Bruce Duff is a very able bassist.

Jesters Of Destiny - Diggin' That Grave.

A Trick Of The Tail - Genesis

For me, this is Genesis at their very best. It is the first album without Peter Gabriel yet it's hard to tell much difference in vocals or songwriting when listening. The album carries the same quirkiness and musicianship from earlier albums and seems to be more in focus. Headphones required!

I agree Buckeye, it's hard to spot Gabriel not being present, though I do recall buying Peter's first solo album and scrounging the shop display of that rain covered Audi. This and Wuthering are excellent... but the rocker in me hails Foxtrot and Lamb as true works of art. I took your advice and listened to A Trick Of The Tail this afto... this particular track was like being re-introduced to an old friend.

Genesis - Dance On A Volcano.

Peter's first solo album is very strong and I think Moribund The Burgermeister is a top shelf song.

I have always struggled with the album Lamb Lies down but the title track and Back In NYC are obviously great.

You like Foxtrot and I prefer Selling England By The Pound, it's all fun music that takes a little effort.

Question, do you think the overall sound of Genesis improved dramatically starting with Trick Of The Tail? Those early albums seem to slosh in a haze at times. I am not a 'hi-fi' or audiophile type looking at channel separation and dynamic range but it seems that a band so meticulous with music would also be detailed with overall sound quality.

Good conversation.
