Re: Taylor Swift of Katy Perry?

I agree with both of you in a way.

One thing about Britney. She recently released an album that went number 1. Now she is touring and is having major ticket sales issues. She recently had to offer a 50% discount on her California shows. She made money selling music but not so much performing it....interesting switch for a modern musician.

Re: Taylor Swift of Katy Perry?

Of those two ladies, I'd rather have sex with Katy Perry....but one never knows if she has some nasty body odor or a bad attitude.

Music wise, neither one really. I don't listen to modern pop artists except that Texas gal Kelly Clarkson. She's a great singer with a powerful and beautiful voice, unlike the other two in question. She also does a great job with a wide variety of styles within the pop parameters, and the tunes are always top notch.

Re: Taylor Swift of Katy Perry?

I'm surprised everybody finds Katy more attractive. I'd much sooner date Taylor, myself. Though I guess that has as much to do with her music as her looks.... Sentimentality is everything.

I understand how you could take it that way and I apologize if that's how it sounded. Credibility and respect are two different things. I can still respect you as a person while thinking the arguments you are making lack credibility. I will say that you seem to gravitate towards the extremes. I think you have admitted as much in the past. Your proffessed love for Burzum and GG Allen are perfect examples. Personally I suspect that you admire these two acts more for their church burning, poop throwing antics then you do for their music. I suspect a similar thing is going on with the bland pop acts, far to the other extreme. You enjoy defending the indefensible for the mental sport of it. Or maybe you just like crappy music what the hell do I know?
I do gravitate towards extremes, but not for that reason. I do it because the differences between different artists and styles is what interests me about them. If I wasn't looking for things to be strikingly different from each other I would just listen to Neil Young and never buy another CD. I'd rather explore some brand new territory than retread the same old ground with Wolfmother.

I can sort of understand where you're coming from, I used to be image conscious like that. But my love for modern pop is every bit as genuine as my love for classic rock. I would think my posts prove that. Did you see what I said about the concerts, in my first post in this thread? Getting into pop is incredible because it's just like it was when I first got into Petty and Neil and Zep and Floyd when I was a kid... EXCEPT, now I have 10 years of music experience, I understand all of it so much more and so I can enjoy it so much more.

I like rap and metal and noise but pop is closer to classic rock than any genre I've listened to since I started listening to classic rock avidly 10 years ago. I don't like to argue at all, I hate it. I try not to diss anything and would prefer everyone follow suit. But with pop it's such an easy argument to make... It's not like The Beatles' biggest hit is a noise song, or The Doors gave all their money to charity. Pop and rock are as close as any two genres are.

If you don't like Katy, Taylor, GG, Burzum, then yes I like very, very crappy music by your taste. ;p

Didn't say Katy Perry was more attractive, just more meat on her bones. Taylor Swift looks like a cute stick figure.

Kelly is good, but I was already into acts like Avril Lavigne before I heard her so it felt like treading similar ground to me. WHICH, obviously, I'm certain many people say about Taylor and Katy as well. But I hadn't personally heard anything like them before so it was quite 'new to me.'

Still dig Since U Been Gone, though. Good song. Since you like Kelly, please allow me to recommend Orianthi if you haven't heard her. She's a fantastic guitarist and has a similar kind of style to Kelly imo.

Me too. Although I am sure I have heard them in a commercial or something without knowing it.

I have to admit to being slightly hypocritical here. I am constantly getting on the case of "classic rock purists" who refuse to give new music a chance when I am doing the same in the case. But given that I am not a pop fan in general (with power pop being the main exception), I have a HUGE list of other things I would like to listen to, and the little snippets I have heard of related artists I have not enjoyed...I think my probability of finding new music I like is much higher when I look elsewhere.

Re: Taylor Swift of Katy Perry?

I just saw the video for Katy Perry's Last Friday Night and I thought it was pretty hysterical, so I'm going to go with her.

It's totally unfair though, because I have no idea what Taylor Swift does.
