What is your ONE favourite album? And Why?

Green Day nutcase though I am, I have to say that my favourite album ever is still Springsteen's "Darkness on the Edge of Town". Doubt any album will ever mean more to me than this one does.

Why? Because I believe it saved my life, literally. Wouldn't be alive and kicking today but for this album, which kept a tiny pilot-light of self belief burning inside of me when there was little else in my life.

My ONE favorite album is Kind of Blue by Miles Davis. OK, sue me, it's not classic rock, or rock at all, but there you have it. It has a calming, soothing effect on me that I don't get anywhere else without ingesting illegal substances. Pure beauty from start to finish.

Re: What is youe ONE favourite album? And Why?

Beatles - White album...best "new album experience" of my life. I was starved for some new Beatle music. New Beatle music with some balls in the electric guitar dept.. "Hey Jude" and "Revolution" were great teasers of what was to come. The Beatles more, MUCH more than just delivered. What a great album package..."filler" songs and all. (and I think Rev #9 is essential to the package) What a trip!

Exile on Main Street....love the groove/vibe of the whole thing. Its the only album I can think of that fits every mood I have: from laid back, don't give a shit, relaxed to try to sprint on the last mile of a long run.

Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run. As manutd11 said, perfection from start to finish. Also, Jungleland is my favorite song ever. It holds special memories for me.

"Nursery Cryme", the album which permanently planted my feet into progressive rock soil. I had always liked Yes and some King Crimson but this album pushed me over the edge. I still consider this Genesis' best album.

Yes ... I relate to a lot of what's on this album too.

I think that is the one thing that rock music does for me (and I am sure I am not the only one), it lets me know that I am not alone and that others relate to life as I do ... and that being "different" in a world that is becoming increasing homogenised, is perfectly ok.

I like the way you put that. Maybe that is why so many of the outcasts at Mila's middle school were rockers....

Dark Side of the Moon-Four talented musicians working together for a common goal, the music turning out to be much more than the sum of their individual parts. This is a moment in time that will not be duplicated. It also stands the test of time, crossing age lines. This album still sells a 1/4 million copies a year, 38 years after its release, for god sakes. I still listen to DSOTM a lot. I figure I need to listen to it as much as possible before I shuffle off this mortal coil.

London Calling ... for myself the album stands at the nexus of rock n' roll looking back at the past and forward to the future. It has aged well, is diverse and cohesive at the same time which is remarkable considering it's double disc length.

Who's Next. The Who were the act that first got me into music, and Who's Next is their finest album with no weak spots and a couple of the greatest songs of all time ("Behind Blue Eyes," "Bargain," "Baba O'Riley," "Won't Get Fooled Again").

Actually, I think I'm gonna go listen to it now...

Sleeps with Angels - Neil Young

This album got me through some tough times, and I related to so much of it. Only someone with the credibility and wisdom of Neil Young could pull off an album like this. Its deep dark yet hopeful.

Re: What is youe ONE favourite album? And Why?

Kate Bush - Hounds of love.

The A-side is a superior array of melodic masterpieces.

The B-side is a continuous song (divided in 7 parts), unlike anything else she did.

There is nto a single weaker spot on this album. It is perfect.

Re: What is youe ONE favourite album? And Why?

The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. The songs of love, hope, longing, pain, confusion, and innocence lost are something that I feel most anyone has related to at any given point in their life. I feel Brian and Tony Asher were in a special place when writing those songs. I've never heard anything in music as beautiful as those instrumental tracks and the sound of those 6 voices blending together in those terrific harmonies that Brian arranged. It would all fall apart soon after, but IMO, nobody was better then the Beach Boys at that time.
