Jon Lord has Died

Legendary Deep Purple keyboard player and composer Jon Lord – also loved for his work with Whitesnake, Paice, Ashton & Lord, The Artwoods and Flower Pot Men – has passed away today, Classic Rock has learned.
What a shock. I thought he was doing well with his illness.

Purple are one of my all time favourites, and this is devastating news. Thanks for the memories Jon. RIP.

Re: Jon Lord has Died

Sadly one of the last of a dying breed, really good keyboardist in rock music. The bands today just don't have them that much and Lord was a good one. R.I.P.

Sad Re: Jon Lord has Died

My favorite songs by Deep Purple are "Smoke on the Water", "Woman From Tokyo" and Joe South's "Hush"!

Rest in peace.

Re: Jon Lord has Died

Deep Purple had a sound like no other band. Youd hear a song and know its Deep Purple even if you had no clue what song it was. His keyboards combined with Blackmores guitar made the band !

I saw them live on the Perfect Strangers tour in the 80s, Jon used these huge cumbersom keyboard sets. Hed kick one off to the side and jam on another and come back to the the other, bring another in.

His keyboard playing used some heavy distortion and it came out great. He made keyboard playing cool.

My own favorite I think is " Space Truckin "

Re: Jon Lord has Died

I'm not the biggest Deep Purple fan. Some of their stuff I like a lot, some of it I can't stand. Regardless, Jon Lord was an exceptional keyboard player and an influence on many. RIP and yes, cancer sucks big time.

Re: Jon Lord has Died

Message from Mr Blackmore here.

Quote:

Personal
message from Ritchie about Jon Lord's passing
:
Jon
was not only a great musician, he was my favorite dinner companion. We are all
deeply saddened. We knew he was sick but the word was that he was recovering
and doing much better.
This news came as a complete shock. Without Jon
there would be no Deep Purple. He lives on in our hearts and
memories.
