David Bowie. Always found him to be more authentic as a "glammer" to me. Though I do love some Elton John now and then too

As some one said 2 pages ago Bowie stands the test of time and cred, but Elton went camp after his early albums imho.

David Bowie is totally in a class by himself. He's practically a whole genre unto himself!
 Don't get me wrong, I think Elton's done some great stuff. But while he's a talented singer and songwriter, I don't think he's quite the game-changing, shape-shifting phenomenon that is the almighty Bowie! It's not even a fair comparison... |

I think if one looks at the lps by both from 1969-1980 the material by Bowie carries more weight and gravitas than Elton's stuff....though as mentioned Elton did some nice songs in his career.
