Re: The battle for Seattle!

Nirvana easily for me. Never been much of a Pearl Jam or Soundgarden fan. Alice in Chains would be a distant 2nd

Re: The battle for Seattle!

in regards to what lancer said on page uno< i haven"t been around because my computer is in deep disrepair>

right now i choose nirvana> they were a band in the great rock tradition< far more so than the other three> nirvana approached music exactly how i believe it should be done> they didn"t pay supercifical homage to the great music of the past like your wolfmothers out there> they actually understood the **spirit** of the music< i mean just listen to nirvana"s leadbelly covers> it"s modern but captures the emotion of the original in an unexpected way> it"s about where the music was coming from< not just trying to sound like your music should have come out a decade ago>

nirvana set up their albums like led zeppelin and the stones> youve got the rocker tracks< the amped up ballad< the full on ballad< the experiment< just replace the obligatory blues with an obligatory punk thrasher> it"s all organic< they play the music they like

however nirvana & aic have switched place for me in the last five months> back then i would have said the opposite __ nirvana is archaic and aic still makes sense> aic"s acoustic material really transcends genre> it"s folkie but deeply musical< eerie and hard_edged< it doesn"t fit in with the stereotypical dmb acoustic brand>

Re: The battle for Seattle!

Not into Nirvana. Soundgarden is good.
So between Alice In Chains and Pearl Jam. Pearl Jam has a bigger discography, and I like Ten a bit more than Dirt.

Any band whose music is based on guitar(s), a bass, a keyboard (maybe) and a set of drums fits my definition of a classic rock band. I think arguments about why certain bands with this type of instrumental lineup fit the classic rock mold while others do not constitute hair splitting. All electric guitar bands are classic rock bands, period.

Re: The battle for Seattle!

Hmmm ... ok only because I was asked ...

Honestly I didn't ever get into the "grunge" thing except for glomming on to Stone Temple Pilots a bit but they're not a "Seattle" band. About the only band from Seattle, off the top of my head, that I know of and really like would be Queensryche.

Ok ... I don't have anything from Soundgarden ... used to have a Chris Cornell solo CD ... not even sure why I bought it or don't have it any more.

Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder didn't ever do much for me ... and I don't have any PJ in the "collection".

I have a couple of AIC comp. CD's only because of a "project" I was working on several years ago ...

I didn't go nuts over Nirvana ... but I do have Nevermind on cassette and CD and play it once in awhile and it's not a bad album ... so basically my vote is for Nirvana by default.

Hmmmmm. Alice in Chains are getting a lot of second place votes here - but that won't get them diddly squat in this poll.
