I remember a story about Hubert Sumlin, Howlin' Wolf's guitarist, after jamming with the Yardbirds saying "These boys want to play the blues real bad, and that's exactly what they do". Lol

What's sad about all this is the fact we wouldn't have any of our classic rock bands without these old blues artists. They don't get the recognition they deserve......

True. It's also true though that there would have been no resurgence in interest in the music of the old blues artists had bands such as the Rolling Stones, Animals, Yardbirds, Them, etc. not covered some of their recordings. For example the Rolling Stones were in 1964 very surprised to find Muddy Waters reduced to painting the ceiling(?) at Chess Studios in Chicago because he wasn't earning enough money as a musician to pay the bills.
