Question The Dave Clark Five versus Paul Revere & the Raiders!

The liner notes on early Paul Revere & the Raiders LPs would have the reader believe that they served as one of America's very few bulwarks against the British Invasion. But were they then successful?

Which band do you prefer?

Dave Clark Five

Paul Revere & the Raiders

Paul Revere & the Raiders based on "Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian)" alone!

This is a rare poll for me where I like both bands equally, I'll have to give it some time ....

Paul Revere & the Raiders are very underrated. Inconsistent to be sure but they have a surprising number of good songs.

Re: The Dave Clark Five versus Paul Revere & the Raiders!

Both these groups had a handful of good songs but the DC5 had just a couple more.

The DC5 barely had any good songs. Of the hits, "Try Too Hard" and maybe a couple of others are decent but most of their stuff sounds really contrived, to me. Their version of "I Like It Like That" is an unmitigated disaster and not in a good way.

I like both bands, but Paul Revere and the Raiders were just incredible. I've got to give them the vote.

What about "Over and Over"? I think it's a classic straight forward unpretentious rocker.

Re: The Dave Clark Five versus Paul Revere & the Raiders!

Like some others...just about equal for me. Two great vocalists, lots of hits...I'm gonna favor the Raiders here though...(and I love the DC5's version of "I Like It like That"!)

I read that the Raiders passed on a chance to record "It's My Life". So the Animals took it (or maybe it was "We Gotta Get Out of This Place...one or the other).

1964...I took a punch in the arm from an older kid on the block when we were arguin' over who was better the DC5 or the Beatles (I was TOTALLY w/ the Beatles). He later apologized. He was a pretty cool guy actually...he turned me on to Famous Monsters of Filmland mag and invited me in to his house once to listen to the Animals' first album on his parents' Hi-Fi...(had to take my shoes off before entering...nice carpet). Last I saw of him was around 1970...he was drivin' a Royal Enfield chopper. (excuse me while I reminisce)
