Bowie by far. Bowie is a very underrated songwriter, IMHO. He showed remarkable maturity early in his career and through the 70s made so many classic albums. Excellent voice and singer as well, of course. And showman.

Elton has a lot of great songs, too, but I think Bowie is much better.

I like a fair amount of Bowie's stuff but this one's not even close for me - give me Elton John.

In the early days I would probably give Elton the edge, but over the years, Bowie has retained his credilbility, whereas Elton - hasn't!!!

Bowie therefore wins.
