All Things Must Pass vs. Imagine vs. Band on the Run

These three albums by ex-beatles are usually considered the best in their solo careers. So, which one do you like most?

All Things Must Pass - George Harrison (1970)

Imagine - John Lennon (1971)

Band on the Run - Paul McCartney & Wings (1973)

My own vote goes to George, as usual.

Re: All Things Must Pass vs. Imagine vs. Band on the Run

"All Things Must Pass", I love that album (in fact I like it more than any Beatles album).

"Imagine" is a good album but I personally prefer "Plastic Ono Band".
I don't like "Band on the Run", the only song I like is the last one. I prefer albums like "Ram" or "Wild Life".

So it was an easy choice for me

Re: All Things Must Pass vs. Imagine vs. Band on the Run

Honestly, 'All Things Must Pass' is the best Beatles solo album. I would have also chosen 'POB' for John and 'RAM' easily for Paul.

Re: All Things Must Pass vs. Imagine vs. Band on the Run

All Things Must Pass is about as good as Beatles solo gets. Quality-wise, it's just about as good as any Beatles album. But to say that, I have to pretend that the third of the album devoted to studio jamming doesn't exist. It should have been a two-LP set rather than three.

I am in that minority who believes that Paul has better albums than Band on the Run. It's fun, and there are definitely a number of classics on it, but it's not his very best.

Frankly speaking, you are right there, Rev. The "Apple Jam" part is a bit boring, but that doesn't prevent ATMP being my 2nd favorite album of all time after "Abbey Road".

I would rate "Band on the Run" Paul's second best after "Ram". The reason I chose "Band on the Run" for the poll is that it is his most widely acclaimed album.

The same goes for "Imagine", which is only # 3 in my list of favorite John Lennon albums, after "Walls and Bridges" and "Plastic Ono Band".

That said, I'd take "All Things Must Pass" over any post-Beatles album.

Re: All Things Must Pass vs. Imagine vs. Band on the Run

Maybe 20 years ago I would have picked something different, but ATMP is probably my favorite album in my collection. I love it from beginning to end including the jams, which i think are fantastic. Its too bad the new release was not 3 cds, hell a boxed set. They should have included the full Beware of Abkco demo's. And I would to hear the jams that didnt make the 3rd disk, but never heard of any from bootlegs.

ps. Also agree Ram was the better McCartney

No contest Band On the Run! I also believe McCartney has other albums that are just as good or better than BOTR!

I think Plastic Ono Band is John's best solo album, however Imagine wins this one easy.

All Things Must Pass - This is George's masterpiece .

Why wasn't a Ringo album included to vote on ?
