Re: Radio Daze
I lived real close to my local BBC radio station... literally across the road - the large building behind the pub:

Re: Radio Daze
In terms of radio- it had changed and specialised shows, in particular evening times... based themselves on rock, reggae, jazz, etc...
This like many other rock bands filtered into the mainstream : Status Quo - Down Down. |

Re: Radio Daze
This guy knew the word 'reinvention' - born Bernard Jewry and had big hits in the 60s under the name Shane Fenton (check out Cindy's Birthday!!), then in the early 70s re-thunk and went glam.
The black gloves came about as he was booked to appear on TOTP show as this new alias- his hair was grey so he dyed it jet black, but the colourant was all over his hands... modesty and ego prevailed, leather gloves, and a dress ring - Alvin Stardust was born! Alvin Stardust - Jealous Mind. |

This was everyplace in '74 and no doubt was inspired by the interest of Bruce Lee and Cain.
He was a black belt and beyond apparently - Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Fighting |

1975, our city got a commercial station in the form of Radio Trent...
Little did I realise this was Traffic's drummer. Jim Capaldi - Love Hurts. |

Re: Radio Daze
So much was the American vibe, via Boston and Chicago etc.. I thought these were a US rock band.. turned out they were from England's West Midlands.

Re: Radio Daze
'bout this time- I'd gotten into Rock N Roll and visited a pub called The Cocked Hat... rougher than a badgers ass but great Rock N Roll. Saturday morning was between 10 and 12 was, a gem of a radio show called JC's Jukebox,
a few memories from that show, circa '76. Warren Smith - Red Cadillac And A Black Moustache. |

Re: Radio Daze
It was 75p to get into these gigs, the pianist had a glass eye and used to bounce it on the floor and pop it back in to the beat!
These were the guys, sadly Cavan Grogan passed in 2020. Crazy Cavan and the Rhythm Rockers - Cross My Heart. |

Re: Radio Daze
Things started to hot up, the hippies got a shock- all ears hung on every word of the lamented John Peel, Punk was out and it seemed everyone (and label) wanted a slice of this one chord wonder, on nightly Rock shows- this:
The Nosebleeds - I Ain't Bin' To No Music School. |

Re: Radio Daze
Against an aural backdrop of disco, funk, punk, pop, soul and reggae radio flourished, as the TV and Middle agers thought the Sex Pistols as the new destroyers!
