Re: °What's On My Racks°

... a valid point made by dr wu about Roxy being Bryan's backing band... this was by no means my favourite Roxy Music release (the first album, then up to Siren .)
But this song nails a certain time to the mast, I was going through a real bad mental health patch and was dating a lady who was at least five zip codes above me... she was a Nanny to some formula one racer dude... anyway I got an invite to a soiree at George Harrisons gaff(I was staying in a cottage in Henley)... I clung to this song like shit to a blanket, I was unfazed at the party and this kid from the projects just about held on... just!
So Avalon single and album remains a keeper if not for memories sake. this video version captures the mood and the eagle eyed amongst you might spot 'Echo Beach' Martha standing in for Yanick Étienne.. shame Fonzi Thornton is missing in action but the sentiment is on point.

Roxy Music - Avalon.

Roxy Music - Avalon.
The song and lp are very good but I wish they had stayed closer to that earlier Roxy sound but again it was obvious that Ferry was a crooner and always wanted to be a 'star' and do his solo thing.

Re: °What's On My Racks°

.... If you play the Rare Earth albums together.... like one after another, they flow seemlessly.
Willie Remembers contains Roger Dean artwork.. 'inside' the cover on this one.
One of their best in my opinion.

Rare Earth - Think Of The Children.

Re: °What's On My Racks°

... Think I came in on this Chicago band about 1973-Serpent is Rising album... and had to be ordered if I recall. But this is one of those Lps that I come back to often and own it in all formats.
This song always evokes the 'Boat Drinks' prophecy or hope of that philosophy.... resting on a beach in my even senior years with a huge bourbon and thinking fuck the world and hit this on replay.

Styx - Fooling Yourself

Re: °What's On My Racks°

.... I remember 1976 with such fondness - it was one of the hottest Summer's since records began. I'd clocked up a few bands and festivals and then took a vacation with my Dad in Wales and explored local steam railways and his WW2 airbase. This run of fine weather has reignited those thoughts and fetched this dusty relic out... odd really-'cause it's a neat record altogether... the only explanation is probably that It's A Beautiful Day album hogs the turntable.
Anyways it's on point with the title and artist name!

David Laflamme -Hot Summer Day.
