Re: Have any bands really attempted to pick up Zeppelin's blues rock mantle?

Honestly I doubt if there will ever be another Zep. I think the music scene would need to revert back to rock as the dominant force before it happens. Zep was great because they combined aspects of everything relevant in the late 60s rock scene into a modern (at the time) package - pyschedelic, hard rock, blues rock, folk rock, and even a little bit of southern/country.

Anyways give these guys a listen and see what you think.

Gentlemens Pistols

The Parlor Mob (closest I've heard to a Zep epic is on Tide of Tears)

A bit harder to track down but seek out these albums for some Zep inspired rock:
Leafhound - Growers of Mushroom (raw early Zep sound)
Ozz - No Prisoners (imagine if Zep made it to the 80s and wanted to be more mainstream)

Any more nominees for Zep's mantle?

Indeed! Greta Van Fleet has a very Zeppelin-esque sound. I became aware of Greta Van Fleet in the fall of 2019.

Re: Have any bands really attempted to pick up Zeppelin's blues rock mantle?

Fastway Singer Dave King could do the Robert Plant thing without trying to be a "Plant-clone", and Fast Eddie Clark could sure
lay down snarly riffs. Jerry Shirley was no slouch on drums, either.

The Scream Yeah, they only had one album and barley a hit, but they would have gone on to better things had Motley Crue
not stolen away singer John Corabi. They were neither too rock nor too blues, but a really good mix.

I also wanted to say The Black Crows, but I think they were too blues to have that Zeppelin vibe.

Hey! Those are good. I particularly like the Rival Sons tune. I'll check them out.
