I think I know what a derailer is now...

Not surprising coming from someone who said, "Elton owned the 70's."

Seems I stepped on someones ugly Purple Shoes
Are you saying that Purple was/is bigger than Elton in the 70's?

I'm not saying that Purple were better or greater, or comparing them with Elton John as a person or God as a thing or whatever it is. I just said what I said and it was wrong. Or it was taken wrong. And now it's all this.

I do think it's silly to say "they just plain suck" when talking about a band as varied as Deep Purple though. I'd understand if you were talking about AC/DC or the Ramones. You know what approach you're gonna get when you put on one of their albums, but not Purple...or even Elton for that matter.

I disagree. I'll take the tacos.

Here's one for Wayne though, wherever he is:

Oh man! me too!

It's all subjective...

To say something is overrated is to overestimate the merits of said thing...

hmmm...

I'm gonna stop here.
x2. If the said thing is that person's opinion. Overrated is really just a less direct way of saying, "and why am i right?...because the celestial universe and everything within it revolves around my ass" (which, by the way, is far and away the best thing I have read on CRF2 so far. Thanks kath).

I guess I'm a masochist...or maybe I just like feet ...but I used the Advanced Search and looked at some of Wayne's posts. He was a hoot!!! The Ann Coulter of CRF2.

Poor bugger, harmless enough I suppose but at his age, 40ish you say, he really needed to grow up. Can you imagine him and his wife watching the weather on the telly and her having to listen to his sexist comments
Maybe he's harmless. Or maybe we need to get a search warrant for his basement.

Pulling the John Lennon Card..... Nice
I used to like Purple when I was kid, but they just have not aged well with me... Just my opinion... I know there are many here... you among them.. who love the band and thats cool..... This was a thread of bands I consider over rated... not a personal attack against you. I will concede to liking one song though... SpaceTruckin Live is still killer.

AC/DC - These guys have made like, 13 albums worth of material by repeting the same song! If that wasn't reason enough to dislike them then their quite frankly childish lyrics (See: Big Balls) is reason more.

Van Halen - To me, this is the epitome of something that 80's hard rock has been forever plagued by. Poppy hooks, short catchy chorus driven songs, the "oh look at me I can wank all over my guitar" flashyness, the useless sex appeal; this band has it all.

Bon Jovi - Do I really even need to explain this one?

Alice In Chains - Basically, the formula of Alice In Chains is that a mindless riff gets pounded to the ground whilst Layne Stanley wails his pretentious bullshit over the top. It probably sounds really cool when your like, 15 though.

Save the worst till last...

Guns N' Roses - Like Aerosmith, they're just another white-trash American Stones rip-off, only worse, since they're an Aerosmith rip-off. Despite "critics" assertions, these guys couldn't rock as hard as Metallica or swing as effectively as Jane's Addiction.
Well said! I fully agree (other than having no opinion on Alice in Chains myself).
