I bought IV in Insbruuk on a school trip to Austria when it had just been released....took 2 weeks to actually hear it when I got home but it blew my mind......
Sandy Denny on BOE was awesome and When the Levee Breaks incredible......I chose Stairway but the whole album is a classic.....I was married to a Zeppelin freak and in 30 odd years of watching rock bands the day we both sat for 14 hours in a field in Hertfordshire for the 2nd Knebworth gig watching crap like The New Barbarians and Chas & Dave whilst being baked in the sun waiting for Zeppelin to come on and play the best live set I have ever witnessed will always be burned in my memory.....

And thats high praise coming from a Doors fan of 37 years standing....

I'm very fond of all of the songs on this album, although When The Levee Breaks is my favourite for the superb chemistry between the four band members - the powerful rhythm section never lets up and provides the perfect setting for Page's piercing slide guitar licks and Plant's impassioned vocals. I would pick Stairway To Heaven (so obvious a choice that it's difficult to say anything new about it, but it is great) as my second favourite with Black Dog (brilliant call and response vocals and guitar, and also a great bass part by Jones) third.

I consider IV to be the best Led Zeppelin as it offers the most concise summary of the styles of music they did best. It features brilliant material which combines some of the most successful elements of I (heavy blues), II (loud guitar riffs) and III (acoustic) while having a feel distinct from the earlier releases.
